Jim

About the Artist
Jim’s abstract paintings are infused with energy and engagement. His work often deals with themes of partnership, connectedness and intimacy, whether his subject matter is people or, as of late, the mathematical principle of “set theory” originated by German mathematician Georg Cantor. “Art is about connecting,” Jim says. “It connects us to our past and future, to our families and community, and opens us up to possibility and opportunity.” Jim’s compositions are orderly structures in which colors, meanings and emotions are animated with ebullient rigor.
Jim travels widely and draws inspiration from many diverse cultural and ethnic traditions. His color palette speaks of latitudes far south of Minnesota. A well-recognized and awarded illustrator, he’s worked with such corporations as 3M, Anheuser Busch, Coca-Cola, Disney, Honda, General Mills, John Deere, Marriott, NWA, Paine-Webber, Target and Viacom. He also generously provides artwork to variety of fine arts organizations and nonprofit causes. Jim received his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and is a founding member of Form + Content Gallery.
